Sick as a dog and some makeovers

I've been full of cold all week, struggled into work coughing and spluttering on Monday and Tuesday and promptly got sent home on Tuesday! I think it might be the fact that that I sneezed about 50 times in a row!

Anyway, I thought I'd show you the firescreen makeover I did over the weekend. I used the trusty Dulux Eggshell, I buy the trade stuff that you get at the Dulux trade centres because the paint dries so quickly (I have no patience!). The entire makeover took me about 1 hour. First I took the back off, which was brown and ripped, then I took out the tapestry and cleaned the glass. I put some trade undercoat on (dry in less than 30 mins) and then did one coat of the Dulux duck egg water-based eggshell. While that was drying I stapled some heavy duty French ticking fabric on the back and used some cord that OH's mum got me in a charity shop to finish the edges. I'm really pleased with it, looks so much better than before.

I also distressed the shelves and put some wallpaper in the back.

My dad tried to throw away a fire screen last week and I screamed noooo at him as I knew with a lick of paint it would become something special!

I'm sorry you're not feeling very well.

I almost bought a fire screen last week, although it wasn't nearly as pretty as yours. I love the bow and ribbon detail.
You makeover is fab, ever so beautiful.

Get well soon! The fire screen is fantastic! I've just cleaned out our fire for the summer and filled it with decorative logs and pinecones, but a screen like that would look odd in front of a huge French 'stone' fireplace. Shame...

Brilliant makeover! The colour you have chosen compliments the needlepoint so well.

There are a lot of colds & bugs at the moment. Hope you feel better soon!
The makeovers are great!! Love that duckegg blue, and didn't realise that the paint would dry so quickly. Will have to find our local Dulux Decorators Centre!
Like the tapestry, and backing fabric on the firescreen, and love that pretty rose paper backing the shelves. Is it CK?

Get well soon : )

Yes, yes. That's what I want to do - have you any idea how to clean the tapestry on the front? Mine has no glass to preserve it and the back is ripped and ugly so I'll definitely do something like this to it. So much brighter than before - clever you.

Good makeovers - but I'm sorry you've been poorly.
Thanks so much for having a search for that fabric. They did it as cushions, but not the fabric. I'm tempted to go buy a cushion, I loved it that much, especially if I can't trace the fabric! x

Thanks for your congrats Sian! I think it's about time CK produced a better selection of wallpaper designs too!! She should take a leaf from Laura Ashley's book!
Any news on the 'Keep Calm' posters?
Have a good weekend : )
