Crochet course and the way of the sword

[Laughing Hens retreat]

I've signed up for this crochet course, it's really local for me and looks basic enough. I'm a bit stingy with petrol you see (comes with driving 150 miles daily to work!) so the more local the better. I've had a go myself and I just get so frustrated with it! I find knitting a doddle yet crochet is like an alien art form. I think I need someone to show me and explain how to follow a pattern. Whilst browsing the net for courses I also found this place which isn't too far away and looks really good. I love the sound of the weekend course, right up my street! I think at £695 I'll have to start saving my pennies! :-)

I'm also going to start doing martial arts again. I've done Kick boxing and Karate in the past but I thought this time (now that I'm a bit older) I'll have a go at a more civilised discipline - Aikido (the way of spiritual harmony) or Iaido (the way of the sword). I like a new challenge and I don't think I cram enough in to my weeks! ;-)

Hope you're having a good week! Btw, thank you for all the lovely compliments and for all of you who have ordered from me. I promise I will let you know as soon as I get the 'Keep Calm' posters. I'll also be adapting the design (slightly different wording) for some mugs in pink, green and blue, but more on that another time!

How exciting about the crochet, sounds perfect! Thanks for the link to their website, I might have to have a browse of the yarn on offer tomorrow! I've seen Laughing Hens featured in magazines too and it also looks very good, very idyllic. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

Enjoy the crochet course - what a fab thing that will be! I can't find anything near to me. I'd love a sewing course. x

Good luck with the course. I am loving getting back into crochet, the results are so quick and as a knitter I find crochet easier if anything!

You lucky thing you, I can't find any crochet days or courses near to where I live. Although, i can do the basics, I would love an expert to show me more. I am loving the ripple design at the moment and see that Hen has posted some instructions which I will have to copy down. dev X

Good luck crocheting! I only know very basic stitches and knit a little. It takes time to stay in practice I find.

I've just recently found some knitting and crochet courses I'm hoping to sign up for soon. The luxury course does sound wonderful but I think I'll be opting for a cheaper version too!!

Thanks Sian, it is reassuring to hear things like that, you're a million times more qualified than me! Your school sounds terrifying!

I think you're v right about the not-mollycoddling school of thought. I was left to get on with things more whereas my brother was always treated like a baby and indulged at every opportunity. He is now at the age of 27 still living with mum, earns a pittance and no sign of ever getting his independence! Still love him though :)

Hi Sian, hope your course is good! I did a crochet course in York a few weeks ago via Sheepish, it was a real help to have someone to tell me where I was going wrong. Since then I bought the Rowan Crochet Workshop book via amazon and it is excellent - I would highly recommend it.

Hi Sian, Ooh Thanks for that. I had another lady sign up for the swap this morning, so I'll pair you up with her if thats OK. I'll still have 2 swap buddies, but thats OK. As long as everybody has a swap partner I'm happy. Theres quite a lot doing the swap should be good. I'll update my post in a minute with the details, hugs Pixie. xxx
